Arizona: Wigwam Motel

Amongst our many stops along Route 66, the one that I know will stick vividly in my mind the most is our visit to the Wigwam Motel. After many hours on the road, I was becoming restless and eager to reach our next stop. Until there it was – a sign saying ‘Sleep in a Wigwam’ (otherwise known as a teepee) and so we did just that.

We arrived at dusk, there were at least a dozen of teepees that circled the grounds. We parked Chevy in front our room and stepped inside. There was a cosy bed, a TV and a small dining table for two where we played card games until we grew tired. In the morning we rolled out of bed and climbed the roof of Chevy, eating 2-minute noodles for breakfast whilst overlooking the site. There were all these classic old-timey cars parked outside some of the rooms to compliment the vintage theme and no other guests to be seen in sight. Once again we were able to enjoy a landmark that felt wholly and solely ours.
