The Joneses: A Beachside Beachcomber

After a quick ferry ride from Hobart, we arrived on Bruny Island, eager to embrace island life. A scenic drive through roads lined with towering gum trees led us to Adventure Bay, home to The Joneses—a classic beachcomber gem.

This beachfront beauty had us grinning from ear to ear upon arrival. Its crisp white exterior, mid-century charm, and lush native garden hinted at good times ahead.

Inside, the living room was pure bliss—a large linen sofa, a cosy armchair, and an oversized coffee table, all positioned to capture direct views of the beach across the road. Our welcome breakfast hamper by Hamperlicious, filled with local delights, made waking up on our first morning even more delightful.

Mornings here were spent with coffee in hand, watching the ocean from the front deck. On our first day, seals gliding through the waves had us racing to the shore in our pyjamas. Each day, we watched visitors wander towards Adventure Bay Beach, but as guests of The Joneses, we relished the luxury of having front-row seats at one of Bruny Island’s most picturesque pockets.

I found myself looking forward to bedtime as much as waking up to a new day spent exploring Bruny Island. The bedroom’s king bed, perfectly placed by the large window, let us drift off to the crashing waves outside. We kept the window open throughout our stay replacing the need for my Calm app—even better when the rain pounded the tin roof one night.

Our host, Aine, made us feel so well taken care of. Fresh flowers beside the bed, plush bath towels in the luxurious bathroom, and the softest linens made us feel pampered. There were even marshmallows stocked in the kitchen for roasting during a fire pit sunset session, while binoculars on the shelf became our go-to for seal spotting.

Not long after checking out, Aine sent me a message that captured it perfectly:

“While some may enjoy it just for a holiday, we think it’s one of the most magical places on Earth and can’t believe we get to live here. The longer you spend on Bruny Island, the more you can feel yourself slowing down and noticing little but important things.”

After our stay at The Joneses, I couldn’t agree more.
