Orange: Fields of Gold

Every now and then I get the sudden urge to pack a bag and escape the city. The wish-list went something like this; a cosy cottage on a big property with a fire place, set amongst open fields where the stars are overwhelmingly bright at night. All this and more was found at an Airbnb listing called Frisby Cottage.

Frisby Cottage is a private, country dwelling in Cudal, only 35 minutes from Orange, New South Wales. We arrived late in the afternoon, unpacked hastily and sat down for an evening picnic under a tall tree. There was also a tennis court on the property where we played for hours and watched the day come to rest. The next morning we paid a visit to the local winery and spoilt ourselves with a lunch overlooking a sprwaling vineyard. On the way back we came across fields of gold where canola fields were spread out for miles and miles.

This weekend has reminded me of how important it is to escape the hustle and bustle of the city every now and then — if only for a while.
