Victorian Elegance of The Townhouse, Launceston

Headed east from Stanley along the coast, with the Bass Strait to our left keeping us in good company, in time, our 3-hour drive led us to Launceston; Tasmania's second-largest city, sitting proudly by a winding river.

Being one of Australia's oldest cities, it came as no surprise that Launceston was filled with stunning Victorian architecture, and we were lucky enough to call one home in The Townhouse — if only for a little while.

The terrace house is a story of great resilience. Not only have they survived since being introduced to Australia in the 19th century, but they have thrived under a new generation of homeowners who've proudly modernised them, whilst maintaining their old-world bones.

One such shining example of this is The Townhouse; a cheerful abode, situated just on the edge of town, unmissable thanks to its sunshine-yellow exterior and romantic, ornate trimmings.

Stepping inside is like traveling back in time, with period details lovingly celebrated, all the while promising a relaxing stay.

With our road trip hitting the halfway mark, the blissful living room, light-filled sunroom, and European-flavoured, stone courtyard, offered us a much-welcomed interlude from the winding rural roads.
